Happening in Hamilton

Hamilton is New Zealand’s largest inland city located on the banks of the mighty Waikato River. The City has an abundance of parks, gardens and walkways to visit and enjoy along with a lively art and crafts scene. Hamilton is full of interesting artworks and quirky things to do, like the large outdoor chessboard in Garden Place and the life-size statue of Riff Raff, from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Hamilton attractions and activities include hot air ballooning, go karting, paintball, horse riding and rock climbing. Hamilton’s central location provides easy access to regional attractions like the Waitomo Caves, Hobbiton, Otorahanga’s Kiwi house and Raglan’s West Coast surf beach.

Fans of the Lord of The Rings will enjoy a visit to Hobbiton and the therapeutic Te Aroha Mineral Pools are also within easy reach. Hamilton is a good jump-off spot for destinations in the North Island for the day such as Rotorua, Waitomo, Raglan, Tauranga, so if you prefer to stay in one place, Hamilton definitely ticks all the boxes.  If you have a group hire a bus in Hamilton with us.

There are wineries to visit, boat cruises along the Waikato River and good shopping in the central business district. Hamilton Zoo has a comprehensive collection of some of the world’s most intriguing animals and also has a large population of New Zealand native species to see. Hamilton has a vibrant dining precinct and also holds regular markets which are all of a reasonable size. The Farmer’s Market brings the best of local fruit and vegetables to the public, while other markets showcase the art and craft talent found throughout the Hamilton region.

Other Hamilton attractions of interest include the Hamilton Gardens, with themed gardens from around the world and the Waikato Museum which exhibits the cultural and historical stories of Hamilton and the people who shaped it.
