Minibus hire in Auckland with a driver means your group travels together and nobody has to drive. Rentabus arranges it. Groups of roughly eight to twenty-two people, a professional driver, and no arguing about who stays sober or where to park in the city.

Minibus with a driver, or self-drive rental?
Worth settling first, because it changes who you should be talking to.
- Self-drive rental means you collect a van and drive it yourself. Rental firms handle this. It can be cheaper for a simple trip where someone is happy to drive.
- Minibus with a driver means a driver collects your group, follows your run sheet, and drops everyone back. That is what we arrange. It suits weddings, work events and sports fixtures, where the whole group wants to be passengers.
If everyone wants a drink at the event, a driver is the better answer. The same goes for days with several pickups or a late finish.
What size vehicle do you need?
Seat count and luggage space are separate questions. A vehicle that seats twelve will not necessarily carry twelve suitcases. Tell us what people are bringing as well as how many are coming.
- Eight to twelve seats suits small work groups, wedding parties and airport runs
- Thirteen to twenty-two seats suits sports teams, larger family groups and conference shuttles
- From twenty-three people you move into smaller coaches, and large coaches take fifty or more. See bus and coach hire for those.
If your numbers sit near a boundary, say so and we will price both. Sometimes the larger vehicle costs less per seat than squeezing into the smaller one.
What is included
Quotes cover the vehicle, the driver, and the fuel for the run you describe. What changes the price is time and distance, not much else.
- The driver stays with the group for the booking, so there is no re-booking a return leg
- Waiting time between legs is normal for weddings and events. Tell us the gaps and they are built into the quote
- Tolls and parking on the route are handled by the depot rather than falling to you on the day
- Changes to the run sheet are usually fine with notice. Same-day changes depend on the driver’s hours
What people use a minibus for in Auckland
- Wedding transport, moving guests between the ceremony, the reception and their accommodation
- Airport transfers where the group and the luggage travel together
- Corporate events, offsites and moving staff between sites
- School trips and sports team travel
- Winery and day trips, including Hobbiton and other out-of-town destinations
- Hens and bucks nights, moving the group between venues so nobody has to drive
Areas we cover around Auckland
We arrange minibuses across the region, including inner city Auckland, the North Shore, West Auckland and Manukau.
Trips out of the region are common too. We have depots in Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington, so a one-way run or a multi-day trip does not mean paying for a vehicle to drive home empty.
How the depots work
Rentabus is not a single yard with a row of buses. We work through depots around the country, which matters to you in two practical ways.
If one depot is booked on your date, another can usually take the job. You are not left starting again. And for trips that cross regions, the vehicle can come from the end nearest the work rather than driving hours to reach you.
Planning the run sheet
A few decisions make the difference between a smooth day and a stressful one.
- Pickup points. Two or three well chosen stops beat collecting people individually. It keeps the timing predictable.
- Traffic. Auckland between 7am and 9am, and again from about 4pm, shapes your schedule more than distance does.
- The return leg. Late finishes need planning up front, especially for weddings and end-of-year functions.
- Luggage and gear. Sports kit, instruments and suitcases all need space that is not a seat.
How booking works
Tell us where you are starting, where you are going, when, and roughly how many people. We come back with options and a quote. If a depot is unavailable for your date we look at another rather than leaving you to start again.
Common questions
Do I need a special licence to hire a minibus?
Not when it comes with a driver, which is what we arrange. Our depots supply licensed, endorsed drivers. There is nothing for you to arrange on that front. Self-drive rental is different, and you would need to check the licence class with the rental firm.
How far in advance should I book?
The busier your date, the earlier the better. Wedding season and the run-up to Christmas book out well ahead. For a quiet midweek trip there is more flexibility, but booking early always gives you more choice of vehicle.
Can the minibus make multiple stops?
Yes. Multi-stop runs are normal, particularly for weddings and events. Tell us the stops when you enquire so the timing and the quote reflect the real trip.
What happens if our numbers change?
Let us know as soon as you can. Group numbers move around and it is usually straightforward to change vehicle size with notice. If you go past twenty-two we would move you to a smaller coach.
Is a minibus cheaper than several taxis?
For a group travelling together it usually is. It is also more predictable, because everyone arrives at once rather than trickling in. Send us the details and we will quote it so you can compare properly.
Can we eat or drink on board?
Alcohol, smoking and drugs are not allowed on any Rentabus vehicle. Food and soft drinks depend on the depot and the vehicle, so say what you have in mind when you book.
What happens if the driver is delayed?
You get a contact number for the day. Traffic happens, and the driver would rather tell you early than have you wondering. For airport runs we build in buffer time as standard.
Do you cover trips outside Auckland?
Yes. Day trips and longer journeys out of the region are common. See Auckland bus hire for the full range, or tell us the destination and we will work it out.
