Lake Taupo

The pretty township of Taupo lies in the middle of the North Island and is dominated by the mighty Lake Taupo. Hire a bus in Taupo to enjoy all these experiencing around Taupo.  Taupo is the perfect base for your North Island ski holiday to the nearby ski fields of Whakapapa and Turoa on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu. Taupo is famous for its trout fishing with a fantastic choice of guided fly fishing trips or lake cruises available to help you catch a prize brown or rainbow trout. The vibrant inner heart of the town is a mixture of a la carte cafes, restaurants and boutique shops with the waterfront eateries providing some exceptional views across the lake to the mountains beyond.

With such beautiful scenery, Taupo has also become one of New Zealand’s top adventure activity destinations. You’ll find plenty here to exhilarate your senses including white water rafting, jet boating, bungy jumping, sky diving and parasailing. To the south, Tongariro National Park is the place to go for walking and tramping and to the north you will find some of the most untouched geothermal activity in the country. Such treasures as the Waimangu valley and Orakei Korako have some of the finest thermal regions in the world. If you are on holiday with the kids there is plenty to see and do with thermal hot pools, indoor climbing walls, playgrounds, an animal park and even a miniature train ride to enjoy. Local attractions include The honey hive, Huka falls, Huka Prawn Park and the Taupo Museum.

If you are a golfing fan try your hand at the Taupo hole in one by trying to sink your ball across the water from the top of a cliff.  Go kayaking, mountain biking, take a scenic flight and skydive to see Taupo and the surrounding area.
